you’re a good catchen, baba

30 September 2006

baba1.jpg

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the emails and the comments. It’ll take me some time to respond to everyone but please know it means a lot to me.

I have to consciously not cry today because every time I engaged in a sobfest I got a blinding headache. I took migraine meds four times yesterday.  I’m going to the hospital today to get a shot, because I feel like, in a word, crap.

All this by way of saying I want to ask a small favor from each of you, a silly one maybe.  Would you please post in the comments your favorite baba quirk or moment or story or what you liked about her?    I know most of you never met the very best geriatic catchen ever, but you have all heard the stories.

It’d mean a lot to me, and would help me today.

Please and thank you.

Goodbye my love

29 September 2006

Daphne Rachel Marie died at 2:20 this afternoon.

baba.jpg

Eyes, look your last!
Arms, take your last embrace! and, lips, O you
The doors of breath, seal with a righteous kiss
A dateless bargain to engrossing death!
Come, bitter conduct, come, unsavoury guide!
Thou desperate pilot, now at once run on
The dashing rocks thy sea-sick weary bark!
Here’s to my love!

by special request

There’s nothing better than mail! Especially mail you knew about and nonetheless managed to be completely surprised by because you forgot about it, which is sort of goofy because Chris posted about it three days ago.

Mayhem’s very cute by the way! Picasso likes her and baba hates her, and all’s well!

Ok. Maybe not.

But I sure love that luridly pink and black yarn, and it’ll be my very next pair of socks! Thank you Chris, you rock :)

And also? Happy birthday to the best Tiphanie I know!

not very still life with Picasso

27 September 2006

I went to a dermatologist to get my moles checked, but the dermatologist wouldn’t do the biopsying, and told me to come back the next day. Noooo! I was in this town two hours away just to see him!!! He eyeballed them and said probably cancer, here’s the yarn stuff you left here last time you were here.

Then the blog minion went missing and I looked for him in the parking lot and couldn’t find him but found the car and when I came back in the clinic, they told me he’d been taken to the hospital and showed me the bloody spot where he’d fallen or whatever and broke something.

Hysterical freakout! Then everyone in the clinic (including Rabbitch) took me out to dinner while I sobbed and sobbed.

Then for some strange reason it turned out I was pregnant and I gave birth, but never met the baby because about then some police came by and said that the minion had died, and clearly I was the guilty party. Nooooooo!

I go on trial, get judged guilty, get put to…

picasso-crop.jpg

Then the Picasso, he pokes.

And thus begins a typical day with Picasso.

Today, he’s very much on his feed, if a bit clingy and really way too much with the poking this morning. I’m glad, if a bit annoyed, because yesterday he was rather lethargic and wouldn’t come when called, and I had to drag him out from his hidey spot to come feed on breakfast. It worried me, because he hadn’t poked me at all in bed and that’s just not Picasso.

But today he’s definitely a Picasso, so um, yay! Even if I’m a bit overpoked.

feetly pursuits

26 September 2006

I feel like I’ve been starring in the made-for-tv movie Invasion of the Sock Knitters.

Complete with cheesy dialogue and bad 80’s design choices. No poofy hair on my part, that’s the Matisse’s territory.

matisse1.jpg

As soon as I got up this morning, the scales fell from my eyes, you see, and I saw that the apartment was a bit of a shambles between the crutched weekend and the Koigu sock knitting.

And I reacted as any sane sock knitter would.

I cast on for another pair of socks.

needles-and-yarn.jpg

I’m doing two at the same time, much in the same way as Teri does hers, except I’m doing 2 rows at a time, as I’m still in the toe increases. So an increase row, a plain row, switch, increase row, plain row. I’m doing them from both ends of the ball… Don’t care that the striping pattern will be reversed. Find it cool, if anything… Tiphanie’s named this pair stormy something or other… Stormy rain? Stormy blue? Help me out here, girl. It’s Lion Brand sock yarn, not as yumtastic as the Koigu, of course, but I need anklets for walking…

And you know? Speaking of the walking? I am doing much better footwise than I did a year ago… It still looks terrible, but changing the bandaging is ok as long as I firmly pretend it’s someone else’s toe, because honestly it’s much better painwise. I even went out for a walk! I think I did a mile… I’m not sure. But it was gooooood. Even with the stoopid flipflops flopping and flipping.

So far so good.

And how was your day?

Don’t knock my sock, or I’ll clean your clock!

25 September 2006

It took all day, meager reading of blogs, and many many vows of never again knitting 24 rows of 2×2 ribbing on size 0 needles, but it was all worth it.

Why?

Because I have a pair of socks!

And now I’m tired. Time to go to bed.

Bona fide sockmaker

24 September 2006

I’m a bona fide sockmaker
Knit knit knit
Sock sock sock

Fall asleep on the sofa
Wake up
Knit some more

I’m a bona fide sockmaker
Countless M*A*S*H episodes
Nary a dropped stitch

Stockinette stockinette stockinette
Koigu is so yummy
Sproingy and random and colorful

I’m a bona fide sockmaker
I’m making a sock a week
A pair every two

Toe up and short row heel
How I love thee
Thank you Tiphanie

I’m a bona fide sockmaker
Yes I am
1728 stitches left

And a pair I’ll have
Of this Koigu
Yum yum yum

Contests galore!

23 September 2006

First, a late announcement for the bellamoden contest!

The lucky winner is Lorinda, with her suggestion for the contest!

Secondly, January One is having a haiku contest. You lucky readers get to see my entry.

One toenail removed
Need January One yarn
To knit single socks

Blog minion went crazy, and sent in his own haiku as well.

Yarn pirates steal sheep,
Spin wool for fantastic yarn,
knit socks for their feet!

Thirdly, Mrspao is having a contest, too! You can win some Fyberspates sock yarn or other things, if you’re not a knitter. For more details, you can go here.

What flavour crisps does James Bond eat?

And in non-contest related news! New glasses! Also, did you know road signs have words on them?

Also taken, were pictures of me Vrooooom Vrooooooming around the mall in a scooter. Those were confiscated by the mall police after I crashed into a yarn store. Oh well ;)

sleepwaking

22 September 2006

I had a civil exam at nine this morning, this time for clerk. And then mom took me home, after seeing as to how I sort of needed a fix pain meds given I’d gone straight for the exam.

Then I came home, soaked and cleaned my foot, took pain meds, and the next thing I know, it’s 11 pm and I spent the entire day freaking exhausted.

It wasn’t a bad day, really, but it wasn’t much of an accomplishmentriffic day. A few rounds on the sock. A few movies I don’t remember. Probably because I was barely awake. Piled up emails. Hovering catchen.

I did mangage a picture of the toe though. Yum.

the things I do for socks

21 September 2006

In the pursuit of sockly wearings and five mile walks, I’ve…. Well…

crutches.jpg

I did this on purpose.

If you consider removing a toenail as curved as a claw optional. I had an ingrown toenail procedure done on both toes last year and the right toe got cellulitis, the toenail then detached due to baba’s jumping on the toe, and I had to have it removed.

Sexy, no?

Fast forward a year later and it was growing back all right, but was groving back completely curved, and was becoming ingrown at the very top of the toenail. So I had to see the toe doctor.

It was cramping my style. I want to have daily five mile walks and lots of sockwearing and feetly happiness. And I will. Eventually. Because the toenail is gone forever, being too scarred and screwed up and curved to be allowed to come back.

In the short term? Woohoo!  I only need one sock for this weekend and it’s done!
