buried in yarn

2 November 2006

There are few things better than yummy packages in the mail.

Especially when it’s yarn! Quantities of yarn! Yummy yarn!

Yummy yarn you didn’t order! Because it was a surprise!

Atacama yarn. Two skeins each of colors #500, #501, and #503. 110 yards each of 100% alpaca squee yummy fuzzy light yummy handdyed goodness. Mmmmmmmmm! It’s worsted weight, but in my opinon it’s on the thin side. This actually is a very good thing. Because it means knitting socks? A very real possibility!

In a rare burst of knitting ADD I completely wanted to cast on for a pair of socks with the blue ones nownownow. But I was good, because only 20 rounds of 3×2 ribbing per sock separates me from a completed pair of black and white Koigu socks. So. Koigu socks tomorrow! Fixing the wavy scarf tomorrow! Then um, the battle between the socks and the wavy scarf begins…

What should I do with the pink and purple? I could do more socks. Of course. Or gloves. Or fingerless mitts. I could do hurry up spring ones from the stitch and bitch nation book, though these are thinner than the Noro Kureyon called for. I thought about a beret.

I am soooooooo in love. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you Mary!

  1. I LOVE that yarn, too. I have three skeins of the purple that I’ve been fondling and coveting for almost a year now. I’m thinking a hat beacuse it’s so soft. (I’m leary of alpaca socks because I hear they don’t wear so well.) You have such a nice pallet to play with. I could see the beret in the pink, for spring, for sure.

  2. How sweet! How fun!!

Um, does it help you resis temptation if I tell you that 100% alpaca socks aren’t going to wear well, plus alpaca doesn’t have any memory, so it will stretch out and flop… Better for scarves, hats, mittens, things like that.

  3. Yay! It made it. Enjoy it. Howzabout I tell you I paid $2 a skein for it, and you know, had I more moola, I would have gotten you more? O well, you know.

  4. Yummy yarn! And ditto on the alpaca for socks. I got some through Sock Wars… they feel wonderful, but in 1-2 hours… too stretched out.

  5. Ooo. I say a neckwarmer!

  6. Wow! You lucky thing – what great packages :)

  7. Oooh, I love that stuff!
