abstract leaves

27 November 2007

DSCN8226

This is what I’m working on… my abstract interpretation of a pile of leaves. Using a double strand of Iliad I’m making a scarf. I like it! A lot! And no, Tiphanie, you can’t have it. Sorry. :)

SO excited! SO SO SO excited! It’s wonderful to have my name in lights, if you will….

Babble from bellamoden Technical Services

23 November 2007

Hiya everyone. bellamoden Technical Services, aka Matt here, making a post on behalf of Fraro. She’s fine, just recovering from her wild dyeing spree and Thanksgiving. She asked me to write a bit for her, so here we go:

Fraro has dragged me into the world of knitting. I’m still barely starting out with one scarf under my belt. Recently I ordered a Suprise Me! box from her Etsy shop, and it came in Monday. I received a wonderful full skein, and a few small samples she wants me to swatch up.

Kingdom Come
Kingdom Come

First is the full skein she sent me, Kingdom Come. Based on the graphic novel, I was very pleasantly surprised how nice it was. It’s very soft yarn, and I honestly have no idea what to make with it!

I definitely want to find something nice to make out of it, but since I’m still a beginner I have no idea what might be doable.

And now, the quick samples for swatching:

Lord of the Rings

So far I’ve only had a chance to do one quick swatch with A Very Long Engagement.

Edge of A Very Long Engagement swatch

Plain garter stitch, 30 stitches on US9 needles. I tried a slight decrease along the way to see if it affected the striping at all. I think it turned out rather nicely. I’m hoping to get the other balls swatched soon, but certain feline members of the household are not helping too much.

DANTE!!

Fraro will be back to blogging soon, along with whipping up new batches of yarn for her shop. Take care all!

o hai!

14 November 2007

BLOGGING.  One of these things that maybe fell by the wayside. I’ve been busy with The Loopy Ewe’s order (another one was made, so um, maybe I’ll stay busy…) and I’ve been working at the temp job too… so working seven days a week, sometimes 12 hours a day…

Very tired.  Can’t imagine why.

Taking a little wee trip tomorrow!  And then not dyeing next week, due to the holidays and needing to get yarn in.  Expect me invigorated and back to blogging in the next week or two!

I miss you all.

XOXO

this one’s for you

7 November 2007

DSCN8193

I’m wearing it in the picture, but only because I was wear testing it. Yeah. That’s it. And was taking it to the crochet class to show it off. Also: people give you strange looks when you’re photographing yourself outside on campus. I can’t imagine why.

This is my very first true crochet fo! Exciting, right? It’s a bunch of double crochet done lengthwise with a bit of a ruffle all the way around the edge… wraps around the neck nicely three times. Comfortable! Warm! I think it goes well with gramma’s hat. Don’t you? Good thing too… it’s hers. Only this time it’s intentionally hers.

Why? Two reasons, really. The first is to say, see gramma, I -am- learning crochet! And am even kinda spiffy at it. Must be all that knitting. Here. Thank you, gramma. Now please stop fretting about whether I’m learning! The second is to say, thank you gramma. Thank you for your help. You have been so helpful. I can’t believe you voluntarily come over to help me skein. The least I can do is make you something.

I hope she likes it. If anyone’s worth handspun, it’s gramma!

And I can’t believe the crochet looks 90 million times better than my first knitting fo. I think it’s all that experience knitting… not the same skill exactly, but same experience with tensioning and such. I guess.

wake up

6 November 2007

I’ve got nothing today. Or more accurately, TONS to talk about, no pictures… not sure about the brain cells.  Good planning there!  One grapes of wrath left, btw.

But this… I have to share this! Too funny! Wake up! Wake up, catstaff!

lab rats needed

5 November 2007

Hey guys! During my recent dyeing, I’ve come up with two oddball skeins. I’m calling them the Grapes of Wrath because they came out in purple and red (Horrible pun, I know! Sorry….).

I’m willing to include these in my SURPRISE ME boxes to anyone daring enough to try them out. So, who feels like a bit of adventure?

Order a box of SURPRISE ME today through my Etsy shop, and make a note you’re willing to be my victim guinea pig Unofficial bellamoden Testing Lab, and let me know what you think of it! If you like it, I’ll try making more! (This should be interesting. Trying to repeat an unintentional skein.) As thanks, I’ll give you an free item with your next order! How about it?

Don’t worry – actual content tomorrow. You know, of the making things with yarn variety. As opposed to to the yarn as a fo variety. ;)

nakniswemo

1 November 2007

DSCN8182

My entry for this year’s nakniswemo extravaganza is Bonne Marie’s beryl sweater.

As you can see from the swatches, I not only carefully noted which needle size was used for which (7 eyelets for size 7, 8 eyelets for size 8…), I also washed them (wool setting, in the machine, because I figured, better to abuse it NOW and see what happens). And I hung them to dry, on the theory that this would stimulate wearing. And then I let the boys have at it. And tossed them into my bag.

Abusive. Yes. But I figure, I want to know NOW before I knit an entire sweater, right?

And I think the Cascade 220 superwash has stood up admirably! I’m pleased.

And I think beryl and I will be a great match.
