I finished a pair of legwarmers the other day - no pictures. Trust me, it’s better this way, because on Benkei the Sidekick the best picture he comes up with is a pelt where one of the catchen threw up fruity pebbles. So…. No. We will wait, you and I.
It cracks me up I never once wore legwarmers before. And I have spent most of my life in places with cold winters. So I know from being cold.
Especially when I realize for darn sure Illinois is much more cold than DC, even if the temperature is 64. Cold. Because of those crazy winds.
25 mph winds are not unusual here.
Trust me, this is cold when you are wearing flip flops.
I’m cold. And thus I am wearing, well, not the flipflops, but the fruity pebbles legwarmers in bed under a pair of velvet pants. Mmmm. And I am a convert! I don’t like wearing socks to bed. Never have. Too hot, to the point I get overheated, throw off the socks, get cold, put them on, wake up hot, rinse, repeat.
But! With the legwarmers? Get very toasty warm legs, but stick feet out from under the covers! Very warm. But not overheated. Feeties happy. O. Why o why didn’t I discover legwarmers before?
You can bet I’m gonna knit a pair or 37 pronto. Tiphanie, this may or may not signal a legwarmer phase. I’m not sure. I know I need 2 more pairs.
Why? Because I need to wash those and block them to make them totally squished up again… After one evening of wearing the pebble legwarmers they’re totally stretched out! Ugh. Annoying. I love them, feels great, don’t care about the stretched out now that I’m in bed, but for the next pair? I definitely care.
These, I cast on 48 stitches on 5mms and did 2×2 rib. I’ve been reading many books and looking at all sorts of legwarmer patterns but I’m not sure what would work best… I love the combination of a basic yarn and a yarn that lends a fuzziness to it, like Cascade 220 and Rowan kidsilk haze, as in Last Minute Knitted Gifts….. Except I did it in 2×2 rib and not 1×1.Was that my mistake? Too stretchy? My calves are big, so the extra stitches weren’t a problem. Initially anyway.
Got any favorite patterns? Rib patterns? Please, not 1×1. I am not a big fan of 1×1 at all. Bleah.
